Lets Get Balmi! - Balmi Lip Balm in Rasberry Review

I have a strong inclination towards lip products. Especially, fun, quirky looking ones. As you can see from above, this Balmi Lip Balm certainly fits the bill!

My normal lip balm staple has been featured earlier in my current make-up loves, Vaseline Lip Therapy - Rosy Lips. I was intrigued by this though, and thought to try it to see how it compares.

This is the UK's answer to the EOS lip balms that are very popular but sadly not readily available in UK stores (only online).

The Balmi Lip Balm is described as 'a special blend of Balmi moisturising goodness containing antioxidant-rich Vitamin E, soothing Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil to help leave your lips moisturized, soft and super smooth'. It comes in the following funky flavours, Strawberry, Coconut, Blackcurrant, Raspberry and Mint (with added tingle) and also has SPF 15 as an added bonus.

The shade I am reviewing today is Raspberry, and I picked this up from Boots for £4.99

Now I know that may seem kind of pricey for a lip balm, however the bright colour, quirky design and well the fact that it was the next best thing to an EOS lip balm encouraged me to purchase this :)

As seen above,  It also has a cute key chain thing - although it remains to be seen if you would actually use it for that purpose. In any event, when I put it in my bag and retrieved it later to use, it was very easy to find amidst my stuff because of the bright colour and spherical shape. The silicone style packaging is sturdy and it's survived being chucked around in my bag for the past week or so.

Now for the actual balm and what it claims to offer. I suffer from dry, prone to peeling lips. I wasn't sure if this lip balm would be just a 'pretty' looking one, with no moisturising properties. However, I have to say I was really impressed with the moisture it leaves behind.
Initially when I used it, it felt slightly thicker and heavier on my lips than my pink Vaseline. This does seem very smooth on the lips whereas the Vaseline feels more 'glossy'.

The Balmi lip balm does impart a slight clear sheen on the lips, and this took me a while to get used to particularly as I was so used to the pink glossy sheen left behind by my Vaseline. Balmi is smooth and glossy, but not overly so.

I do find it to be very moisturising, perhaps even more so than the pink Vaseline. I also feel it's more hygienic, as you don't need to dip your fingers in to a tub/pot to retrieve the product; you can just use it on the go with minimal fuss.

As its a balm, how long it wears depends on many factor, i.e. weather conditions ( my lips tend to get drier when its colder), your lip skin type and how often you're eating or drinking. I feel if left on the lips, it can easily last a few hours before you need to re-apply. And re-apply you will, as the Raspberry flavour tastes so yummy and fruity! I think this would also be a good base to use before applying lipstick, as it could act as a lip primer.

Overall I am very happy with the Balmi lip balm. Its a good product to have and use. The only drawback is that the sheen or gloss left behind from the balm is not coloured and I tend to favour that, as I feel with my pink Vaseline I get a two in one product; a lip balm and gloss whereas this essentially is just a lip balm.

It's still a cool product though, and I would recommend trying it out. I may try a few other flavours in the future.

  1. I love how you compared this to the vaseline balm! It will really help readers when it comes to making a decision about which is a better fit for them... or in my case - the desire to get both! lol
